Guns, Girls, and Gambling (2011)

Guns, Girls, and Gambling is the improbably-titled new comedy/thriller/action/drama (you know-- one of those) starring Christian Slater, Gary Oldman, and Dane Cook.  If that's not the most unlikely pairing of actors we're going to see all week (it's only the second-most bizarre story we've heard today), I'm not sure what is.  Heat Vision broke the story on what we can expect from the film, which sounds suspiciously similar to 3000 Miles From Graceland, a film that was so terrible, Kevin Costner went into pseudo-hiding immediately upon its release (source: Wikipedia).  So, what is Guns, Girls, and Gambling all about?  You'll have to read on to find out, my gentle Examiner readers...
If you've ever thought to yourself, "You know, I love that Gary Oldman, but what I'd really like to see is him in a film that requires him to engage in dueling Elvis impersonations with Christian Slater while Dane Cook watches while dressed in full sheriff regalia", today's your lucky day: Guns, Girls, and Gambling has been given a greenlight and will soon find its way to theaters.  Here's what Heat Vision has to say about the flick:
The story throws Elvis impersonators, Indians, modern cowboys, a 6-foot-tall blond assassin, a frat boy, a corrupt sheriff and a prostitute into a chase for a priceless American Indian artifact stolen during a poker game at an Indian casino.
Slater plays a normal guy who in a drunken stupor joins an Elvis impersonation contest. Oldman is the contest’s mega-contender, and Cook will play the sheriff.
Writer/director Michael Winnick's behind the film, and if you're unfamiliar with his work, allow me to point you in the direction of...well, the 2007 film Shadow Puppets pops up when you IMDB him, but that's about it.  Heat Vision reports that Freefall Films is financing the project-- which sounds absolutely bizarre-- and plans on getting things going in July of this year.  If you can find a more unlikely or inexplicable film in development right now, please drop me a line and let me know: I love being confused and morbidly curious about these sorts of things.  The plot on this one reminds me of 3000 Miles to Graceland, if only because of the whole "Elvis impersonators + criminals + crooked cops" angle.   In any event, that's not a movie you want people being reminded of when they hear about your new flick.

I'm not sure I'm entirely convinced that this is the role for Dane Cook to be taking on, either, but before we go jumping to any conclusions, we probably need to know a little bit more about the tone of the film.  That said-- and I know I'll be flamed alive for saying so-- but I kinda dug Dane Cook's work in the underrated Mr. Brooks.  That's obviously not the most popular sentiment that I could throw out there, but I assure you that I'm not being facetious: it ain't that bad (and there are douchier people that coulda been hired).  Also, Christian Slater's due for a comeback and Gary Oldman's always interesting to watch, so maybe this thing won't be a complete kick in the junk.  Guess we'll have to wait and see how Guns, Girls, and Gambling turns out, won't we?
